There's no denying it, school is back in session and summer is dwindling.

There are still plenty of warm nights in the coming months and Jill Castilla thought Edmond could do with a street festival of its own. Heard on Hurd is a food truck festival that kicks off Sept. 20 with live music and, of course, lots of food.

Castilla, president and CEO of Citizen's Bank of Edmond, which helped create the event, said she wanted to help create an event to "celebrate the best things about Edmond and invite the entire metro to celebrate with us."

Between Norman and the metro, all the Fridays were taken, so she thought it would be fun to have a Saturday event. She reached out to Brian Bergman, the man behind the H&8th Night Market, for tips.

When he created H&8th, Bergman's motivation was that most of the city we see from the car. Being on foot  encourages guests to explore a smaller portion of the city from a different place. Castilla is putting some of the same  elements in place for the inaugural event. According to a spokesperson for the event, there is a possibility this could become a monthly event.

Live music Sept. 20 will feature Sherree Chamberlain, Denver Duncan and Elms. Food trucks lined up for the party include Taste of Soul Egg Roll, Union Tacos, Lalo's I Love My Taco Chop, Katie Bug's Shaved Ice. There will be pop-up shops including Edmond businesses Edmond Summit Company, an outdoor outfitter, Cargo Rooom, a mobile clothing boutique and Madeline's Flower Shop.
