Phil Busey Sr., I think I love you. Your Commentary ("Do not sacrifice public education") in the Nov. 25, 2009, Gazette was spot-on.

If we're spending big bucks to create a world-class boating river, will we staff ancillary concessions with kids who can't make change or spell the stuff they're selling correctly? If we're spending big bucks to support a princely Legislature, is it too much to ask for better outcomes in the classroom?

As a seven-year mentor/tutor, I could tell you horror stories about incompetence in the classroom. Where to begin a fix? As a Jewish friend of mine says, the problems would cross a rabbi's eyes.
