Written by the immensely talented Texas writer Chris Roberson and illustrated by the immensely talented "Madman" artist Michael Allred, the deliciously dark-humored horror comic centers on Gwen Dylan, a young, hip woman who just happens to be a gravedigger ... and a member of the undead. If she doesn't dig up a grave once a month in order to eat a brain "? an experience, she says, not unlike consuming "motor oil and someone else's vomit" "? she goes crazy.

Upside: Don't go crazy.

Downside: You inherit the memories of whomever's noodle on which you feast. Many of them died violently and/or under suspect circumstances, and therefore, seek vengeance. Through Gwen, they can do that.

That's an intriguing concept, and one I look forward to seeing play out in subsequent months. Roberson's an ace in genres like this, and Allred's one-of-a-kind style is always pleasing to the eye, no matter the story. Speaking of, there's a vampire angle introduced here that doesn't quite make sense yet, but I trust the author has plans to remedy that soon. I'll certainly be there. "?Rod Lott
