JRB Art at The Elms features glass pieces

This month, JRB Art at The Elms will fill its galleries with complementary works of nationally recognized glass art by featured artists and paintings by Oklahoma City-based Mexican artist Ernesto Sanchez.

Acquiring a collection of unique glass pieces, Joy Reed Belt, director of JRB Art, opened the exhibit June 4. With glass art from seven nationally and world-renowned artists, the collection is truly diverse, representing different influences, including abstract expressionism, Asian culture and 20th-century Italian and Swedish glass designs.

"We are excited to bring glass art of this caliber to Oklahoma City," said Belt, in a press release. "Glass is an exciting medium that lends itself to a variety of treatments. Our exhibit is designed to show outstanding examples of blown, slumped, fused, carved, stained, cast, neon and engraved glass."

PARALLEL
Also featured in this month's bill is Sanchez's exhibit, "Parallel Universe," showcasing paintings that are translations from everyday experiences. Hoping to move viewers away from traditional responses to art, Sanchez works with concepts of opposites, cause and effect, and memory and emotion.

"The translation of words, images and sounds comes to me as a mass of emotions and transforms into images," Sanchez said, in a press release. "That place is near chaos, forcing the viewer away from conventional thinking."

Both exhibits run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday through June 28 at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810 N. Walker. For more information, visit www.jrbartgallery.com or call 528-6336.
