Kidding around

No, I don’t have any of my own, but my close friends and family have done an excellent job providing me with lots of nieces and nephews to spoil, from toddlers to grade-schoolers.

The thing about kids: They need stuff ... and lots of it! And with their frequent growth spurts, it’s important to know exactly where to go when your darling wakes up needing a different shoe size.

First stop is Uptown Kids (5840 N. Classen Blvd.; 418-8881). This is a space you don’t have to be nervous to bring the kids to, because it’s designed with them in mind! The clothes racks are lower to the ground, and there’s even an area with a TV if the little ones need a shopping break.

From baby to boys and girls, you can get clothes, shoes, accessories and even equipment like car seats and strollers. Check out uptownkidsstyle. com for info on concerts, story times, trunk shows and other events.

Another great stop is Keedo Kids (12100 N. May; 607-0887) in Northpark Mall. From newborn to girls size 16 and boys size 10, the growing tot in your life can sport all the best brands in their own size.

If you’re an eco-mommy or looking to encourage the child in your life toward a green-friendly product, shop Green Bambino (5120 N. Shartel; 848- 2330). Its specialty is reusable cloth diapers, so if you’re considering that option or have questions, the place is a good resource.

To get the kids ready to head back to school next month, check out the Kids Konserve and LunchBots Eco. Both are eco-friendly options to help keep those packed lunches fresh.

Last but not least, make sure those kiddos have plenty of books to read — or eventually learn to read. My favorite series growing up was The Adventures of Peter Cottontail, and a great place to get all those books, or
a variety of others, is Full Circle Bookstore (1900 Northwest
Expressway; 842-2900).

You might think it’s a little scary to take kids to a bookstore, but the great part about this nook is its room devoted entirely to children. The walls are lined with fun titles, and on the floor are interactive toys and soft seating. Check its website at fullcirclebooks. com for Saturday-morning story times and other activities.

I can help get them clothed, get them cool lunch gear and gift them books to fill their minds, but the rest is up to you. Let’s shop, OKC!
