Lawyers donate over 5,000 turkeys for Thanksgiving

Families struggling with hunger can receive a free turkey at one of three sites across the metro this week.

Through the Lawyers Fighting Hunger program, over 5,000 turkeys have been purchased through donations from law firms across the state.

“Thanks to more than 100 different Oklahoma Association for Justice law firms, contributions from local businesses and the Oklahoma City Fire Department Local 157, we raised more than $75,000 to purchase turkeys and food boxes for Oklahomans across the state,” Oklahoma City Attorney Noble McIntyre said. “Turkeys will be given away in Oklahoma City, Norman, El Reno, and Tulsa.  We will also provide free hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks to all that come to a distribution location where we will give away an unbelievable amount of turkeys.”

The turkeys will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis at the following locations:

Nov. 13 in Norman: Bernstein Law Office, located at 104 W. Gray Street, at 10 a.m.

Nov. 14 in Oklahoma City: McIntyre Law Offices, located at 8601 S. Western Ave., at 11 a.m.

Nov. 21 in El Reno: El Reno Fire Department, located at 2707 Faith Ave., at 11 a.m.

Nov. 22 in Tulsa: The Vault, located at 620S. Cincinnati at 11:30 a.m.

Registration in Oklahoma City will begin at 10 a.m.  Registration in Norman and El Reno will begin at 11 a.m. One turkey per family will be given away until all turkeys are gone.

One in six Oklahomans struggles with hunger every day, according to the REgional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

“The majority of those served by the [food bank] are seniors living on fixed incomes and working families,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.  “These turkeys will provide a valuable source of protein that is often sacrificed when Oklahomans have to choose between paying rent and utilities or buying food.”
