Library's 'wizard rock' concert for Harry Potter fans

The Remus Lupins and The Whomping Willows pay tribute to Harry Potter through the magic of song. Both will take the stage 5-8 p.m. Sunday for a free, all-ages, outdoor concert at Southern Oaks Library, 6900 S. Walker.

"I think it will be a lot of fun," said Cheryll Smith, children's services librarian at Southern Oaks. "I think any Harry Potter fan will enjoy it."

In addition to the concert, a costume contest with prizes will be held, along with other games and activities.

THE REMUS LUPINS
From Los Angeles, The Remus Lupins are named after the Defense of the Dark Arts professor/werewolf who first appeared in the novel "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." The group touts itself as providing "pro-fun, anti-evil, quality wizard rock since 2005."

With an indie-pop bent, the Lupins will deliver tracks off their two albums "Spells From a Broken Wand" and "I Was a Teenage Werewolf."

THE WHOMPING WILLOWS
Meanwhile, the Providence, R.I.-based The Whomping Willows take their moniker from a type of magic tree on the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry grounds. Their musical repertoire includes folkie cuts like "Wizard Rock Heart" and "Draco and Harry."
