Oklahoma City University is partnering with the Oklahoma Humanities Council to present Ellison at 100: A Centennial Symposium to celebrate author Ralph Ellison’s 100th birthday. Ellison is the author of the novel Invisible Man, many short stories and essays on jazz, literature and American culture as seen in Shadow and Act and Going to the Territory.

At the symposium, attendees will have the opportunity to hear lectures from MacArthur “Genius Grant” recipient Danielle Allen; Al Brophy, author of Reconstructing the Dreamland: The Tulsa Race Riot of 1921, Race Reparations, and Reconciliation; biographer Arnold Rampersad; American literary scholar Eric Sundquist; and independent jazz historian Todd Bryant Weeks.

The event is from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Grand Ballroom at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel, 1 Park Ave., and is free and open to the public. For more information, visit ralphellisoncentennial.com. — Gazette staff
