In 1994, Rwanda was the site of a devastating genocide stemming from tribal disputes and political upheaval following the death of the president. In a little over a week, nearly 1 million people were killed. Sweet Dreams revisits Rwanda and follows a group of remarkable women from both sides of the genocide as they heal, forgive and form the country’s first and only women’s drumming troupe. Not content to rest on their accomplishments, the women then team up with a pair of small business owners from New York to open Rwanda’s first ice cream shop.

Sweet Dreams is showing 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2 at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, 415 Couch Drive. Visit okcmoa.com or call 236-3100 for more information about this and other films being shown at the museum.
