Living legend

Michael Dean, public relations director for the Oklahoma History Center, said this presentation is unique, because there are a lot of interactive activities for kids, which makes it that much more interesting.

“We try to make everything as hands-on as possible,” he said. “Call to Arms educates people on the day-to-day life of soldiers by using re-enactors and showing them how they lived in the camps.”

“Call to Arms” will feature Civil War through World War II soldier reenactors, learning booths and artillery firing demonstrations by members of the Fort Sill Gun and Infantry Detachments from the Director of Museums and Military History of the U.S. Army Fires Center for Excellence.

“This event is designed to entertain the whole family,” Dean said. “The kids are allowed to interact with the re-enactors and their environment. It’s an exciting way for them to learn.”

Admission is $10 per vehicle, which includes entrance to the museum. For more information, call 522-0785 or visit okhc.us. —Courtney Silva
