Local heroes

Vince Gill, who was born in Norman and grew up in Oklahoma City, has already
taken home a record 20 Grammys. He has now been nominated for induction
into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The impressive roster of Gill’s
fellow nominees includes Elvis Costello, B.B. King and Ray Davies of The
Kinks.

Anthony
Shadid
, originally of Edmond, won two Pulitzer Prizes for his wartime
correspondence from the Middle East. His final book, the posthumously
released House of Stone: A Memoir of Home, Family, and a Lost Middle East, has been nominated for the National Book Award.

Unfortunately, Shadid died last year of an acute asthma attack while on assignment in Syria.

Chicken-Fried News couldn’t be prouder of our gifted native sons, one of whom was taken from us far too soon.
