Nothing evokes the feelings of childhood comfort and security quite like the playhouse. Unfortunately, many young Oklahomans have lost this simple pleasure, or never known it at all.

That's why the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Oklahoma County and Chesapeake Energy have teamed up to put on the Playhouse Parade, a fundraising event that takes place from July 26 to Aug. 8 in the Macy's Wing of Penn Square Mall, 1901 Northwest Expressway, with a raffle for the houses and an electric car taking place the final day.

Local businesses and design firms will team up to design five different playhouses, which will go on display and be raffled off after 10 days. The event is modeled after an event CASA chapters across the nation present each year, although this is Oklahoma County's first year to do so.

Executive director Lee Ann Limber hopes to not only raise funds, but also awareness to what CASA does and what children across Oklahoma County sometimes suffer.

"The clients we serve are children," she said. "We want people to have an idea of what we do, and the service we provide to children who often don't have anyone else."

CASA volunteers act as advocates for kids as they go through the juvenile court system, acting in the children's best interest and working to ensure they have a safe and permanent home " something they didn't know before.

"We primarily work with children who have been removed from dangerous situations, like home abuse or neglect," said Cheryl Jones, development director. "Often, we assume that children live a comfortable life with a nice backyard, but the truth is there are a lot of children who don't have that here."
