Modest Mouse singer no fan of interviews, cold weather 

Isaac Brock's personality is perfectly in sync with his music, as the Modest Mouse lead singer has developed a reputation for being fiery and erratic. His music is equally volatile.

Known for disliking interviews, Brock was AWOL before finally being tracked down; after about 45 minutes of work from his publicist, his hushed and labored voice emerged from the phone during the band's Canadian leg of the tour.

"Shows are going good," Brock sighed. "But when you get to this time of year, in certain areas, the traveling part isn't all that pleasant. Everything has turned brown. It's all a bit drab."

Brock sounded very tired and more than a little annoyed, but given that the band's previous platinum-selling album, "Good News for People Who Love Bad News" was trumped by this year's "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts, it's likely pesky interviews are coming in at record numbers.

The success should take some of the sting out of cold tours and make bothersome media calls more bearable, but Brock said as long as the shows are fun, he'll all float on okay.

"The shows are great, which makes our days great," he said. "Though wandering around when it's this cold isn't all that fun, and I do love to wander around." "Charles Martin
