Money flowing into state gubernatorial campaigns

The race for Oklahoma governor has heated up, and nowhere is that more visible than in campaign finance reports.

According to the latest figures, U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin and state Attorney Gen. Drew Edmondson are leading their respective parties in fundraising. As of July 12, Edmondson, a Democrat, led all gubernatorial candidates in total amount raised, with $2.578 million. He is followed closely by Fallin, a Republican, who has garnered $2.446 million.

The new second-quarter figures reflect the reporting period of April 1 through July 12.

While Edmondson has raised the most overall, his Democrat rival, Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, had the biggest quarter, with $890,968 raised. However, of that amount, $675,000 was of Askins' own money she loaned to the campaign.

Fallin also had a profitable quarter, raising $748,540. Edmondson came in with $487,111.

Fallin's closest competitor on the GOP side is state Sen. Randy Brogdon from Owasso. His second-quarter  reporting figures show he raised far less than Fallin, garnering $167,547. The total amount his campaign has raised is $391,603.
