Enjoy art the American way: with fair food, free music and fireworks Saturday and Sunday in Moore.

"Art in the Park: A Celebration of the Heartland" combines art "? both the create-your-own and for-sale kinds "? and all the festivities of a true red, white and blue Independence Day celebration.

Artists and crafters will be on hand at Buck Thomas Park, east of Eastern Avenue on 12th Street, to present their wares. And for those looking to create, there's opportunity for that in a children's art tent.

There's more still to come in the two-day event, which usually draws in around 20,000 people. In addition to art in the park, there'll also be a carnival, inflatables and all the fried foods you could ever want.

"Horrible for you, but tastes great," said Deidre Ebrey, director of economic development for the City of Moore.

Beyond that, there's free live music, including a Sunday-night performance by Johnny Lee, famous for the "Urban Cowboy" film soundtrack.

"The city basically manhandles the whole event," she said. "We are fortunate that we're in a financial state to do that again this year."

Of course, the whole thing is capped off by the much loved fireworks show, star-spangled artwork in its own right.

As Ebrey said, it's "good, old-fashioned, Fourth of July fun."

Festivities run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, but the carnival, inflatables and vendors carry additional costs. For more information, visit www.cityofmoore.com. "?Nicole Hill
