No, its a blog post giving tornado tips on Supermans behalf.
The Dallas Morning News Guide Live Pop Culture blog last week reaffirmed to readers particularly those who experienced Mays tornadoes in North Texas and Oklahoma that Kevin Costner has no idea what hes talking about (as if we didnt already know that from his Golden Globes acceptance speech earlier this year).
In the blockbuster flick Man of Steel, Costner, who plays Clark Kents human father, instructs his family and others in jeopardy of an approaching tornado that they must take shelter under a highway overpass.
But as the DMN blog pointed out, thats the opposite of what storm safety officials advise because the underpass creates a wind tunnel effect.
In its discussion of the movies tornado scene, the blog cited an Associated Press interview in which Man of Steel director Zack Snyder pondered the connection between Superman and this years devastating twisters.
If anything, we feel like our Superman has a connection not to make light of it to the kind of grief that happens during those kinds of natural disasters, said Snyder. Also, in a sad way, even Superman cant change that.
No, Zack. Superman cant change that, or really relate to Mays natural disasters at all, because of the whole fiction-reality complex.
But
Henry Cavill, the human actor who plays Superman/Clark Kent/ Kal-El,
said something super-nice in the piece: I hope that everyone who can
salvage things can salvage things, grieve if they need to grieve, move
on from stuff and repair and rebuild, if they have the opportunity. I
cant even imagine what its like.
While
its an admirable sentiment, what many North Texans and Oklahomans
really would like to know for sure is if the powerful winds of the
cinematic twister are what stole Supermans conspicuously classic red
underwear from his skintight getup.
OK, maybe its just us. What gives?
