Museum's Education Center hosts weekly guest artist session

Perhaps in the final few weeks of summer, kids have become even rowdier, more restless and more prone to acting like devilish little rascals instead of the sophisticated angels you know you raised.

Before they head back to school, polish them up and inject some culture into their lives by participating in the "Drop-In Art" session, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Oklahoma City Museum of Art, 415 Couch.

Each Saturday afternoon, the museum's Education Center hosts a guest artist who provides an activity and assistance for the children's activity. This weekend, local illustrator, painter and mixed-media artist Bryan Dahlvang will be helping kids and parents alike create cartoon drawings.

"It's just made for families to come in and work on an activity together that they can take home," said Chandra Boyd, senior associate curator for education.

Although taking children to an art museum may not initially seem like the best way to spend a weekend, Boyd said "Drop-In Art" is just one of the ways the Oklahoma City Museum of Art works to make the museum a place that kids can enjoy, too. Also, Discovery Packs are available when paying admission to the museum, and these fun activity kits keep children engaged and entertained while visiting.

"Drop-In Art" is free with paid admission, which is $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and free for ages 5 and under. No advance registration is required. For more information, call 236-3100.
