Music for all tastes on tap for Opening Night

As 2007 gives way to 2008, downtown Oklahoma City may never sound sweeter, given the wide array of Sooner State musicians and bands performing at Opening Night on New Year's Eve.

Aside from that evening's special Flaming Lips concert at 9 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center, all Opening Night performances Monday can be witnessed for the price of a wristband, which is $8 in advance or $10 at the event.

ROCK
On the rock side of things, Norman's Starlight Mints will play its tasty brand of indie-pop at 7:30 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center, 1 Myriad Gardens, while Student Film will unspool at 8 and 10 p.m. at Bricktown Ballroom, 103 E. California.

COUNTRY
Alt-country's Red Dirt Rangers will kick up some dust at 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. at Bank of Oklahoma, 201 Robert S. Kerr, with bluegrass act Tall Cotton String Band opening at 7 p.m.

JAZZ
CDS Jazz plays City Hall, 200 N. Walker, at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 p.m., and the Al Good Orchestra gets instrumental at 7, 8 and 9 p.m. in Chase Tower, 100 N. Broadway.

ETC.
Edgar Cruz will strum his classical guitar at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. at Stage Center, 400 W. Sheridan. Look for the Highlanders of OKC to bust out the bagpipes at 7:20, 8:45 and 10:45 p.m. at Cox Convention Center.
