osing to pull out of public school. "I'm not happy with separating them (students) off in a corner behind a beautiful iron gate where other children can't go."

But, she added, "I received telephone calls that were full of people screaming at me. I'm just a citizen trying to help. I don't need that."

ADVOCATES OF PUBLIC EDUCATION
While the enterprise effort did not work at Classen SAS last spring, the same belief in community involvement helped bring Belle Isle's and Columbus' models to fruition. A theme among their supporters remains the importance of public education, in whatever form it takes.
At Columbus, Rowten said, school administrators and partners were simply trying to "stretch the boundaries and say, "
