OKG 7 sushi rolls to savor

It’s perfect for a quick lunch or a lavish dinner with loved ones. Although we aren’t on the coast, you’ll be surprised by the freshness and deliciousness of sushi stops around the metro.

GoGo Sushi Express and Grill

1611 S. I-35 Service Road, Moore

Although it’s express service, this spot doesn’t cut corners on what it offers menu-wise. From bento boxes (a sixcompartment box containing choice of meat, rice, tempura veggies and salad, as well as a California roll and miso soup; $8.25-$11.25) to sashimi (raw fish with no rice; $9.50-$10 for seven pieces), to regular rolls like salmon ($4.25) or spicy calamari ($6.50). Take advantage of the $5.99 lunch special. A new location is set to open in early summer at 432 N.W. 10th in Midtown.

The Sushi Bar

1201 N.W. 178th, Edmond

With the clean lines and open space, you might forget you’re in Oklahoma. For dinner, start with the crab cakes ($13 for two), served with sesame dressing and avocado relish. As for the rolls, try the Old Fashioned ($10) — tempura sweet potatoes with avocados and a sour cream and onion sauce — or the OMG ($21 for 12 pieces) — tempura shrimp, salmon, crab, avocado, cucumber and fried stuffed jalapeños — all topped with a cheesey seafood symphony that’s more than enough for two.

Saii Asian Bistro

6900 N. May

702-7244, Opentable

This hidden retreat is off one of the busiest streets in the city, but you’d never know it once inside. Here, you can have your Zen and eat it, too. Try any of the authentic stone pots ($14-$15) or the classic crispy cashew chicken ($12), which comes with mushrooms, bell peppers, baby corn, cashews and crispy chicken in a chili glaze. The bistro knows how to prepare eel here, and these sushi rolls are must-eats: Beauty & The Beast ($10), Caterpillar Roll ($8) and the Black Dragon ($10).

Sushi Neko

4318 N. Western

528-8862, Opentable

Home of some of the best service in town and monster rolls, this spot has plenty to keep you coming back. With the Lady Love ($6) and Hawaii Roll ($7), which manages an entire macadamia nut in each slice, it has got the fusion rolls covered. A popular dish is the Red Canyon ($14), topped with spicy crawfish. The Boatload of Sushi ($39) feeds two to four people and includes a variety from the menu. Try the triple-chocolate mousse ($8) for dessert.

In the Raw

200 S. Oklahoma

702-1325, Opentable

Start with the edamame ($5.50). The owners aren’t kidding about the chef’s special spices … delicious! They do a great job incorporating crab cake in their rolls. Try the ID Roll ($15 or current market price), which wraps up crab cake, avocado and cream cheese and is then covered in masago and topped with seared tuna, spicy sauce and scallions. If you like the crab cake idea, also consider the 6151 (market price), with crab cakes, cream cheese, jalapeño and asparagus.

Shawn’s Sushi

5612 Northwest Expressway

“Shawn” isn’t a name normally indicative of a pro sushi-maker. Put your judgments aside, because the grub is fresh, authentic and priced just right. Start with green mussels ($5.50 for four), baked in a spicy sauce, Japanese mayo, green onions and pepper. Try one of the rice bowls ($7.99) in teriyaki, pepper beef or spicy tofu. There’s a full list of rolls, but make sure you don’t leave without trying the Life Saver ($12.99), which comes with crab, tempura bacon, cucumber, avocado, spicy sauce, tuna, salmon and masago on top.

Grand House Asian Bistro

2701 N. Classen Blvd.

Start with a lychee martini ($7.50), made with gin and lychee juice. It’s the perfect amount of sweetness to set off the flavors of your dinner. Begin with the vegetable tempura ($7) with homemade sauce. Check out the house specialties that start with sushi dinner for one ($16) that includes eight pieces of nigiri (raw fish with rice) and a California roll; or feed the fam with the quartet boat ($80): 18 sushi, 20 sashimi, California and tuna rolls and a Japanese bagel roll, as well as Philly roll.
