Oklahoma City Community College hosts oral health fair

Find answers and ask important questions about children's oral health Saturday at Oklahoma City Community College's Children's Oral Health Fair.

The college will provide free dental and orthodontic screenings and oral health workers will answer parents' questions. In addition, a nutritionist will discuss and distribute information on healthy food choices and childhood obesity.

"We just want the public to be aware of children's oral health," said Lee Ann Townsend, Child Development Center and Lab School supervisor. "In this time, with financial reasons, some people are opting not to go to the dentist, and children's oral health is so important, so if you could get free screenings, that could be an alternative to it."

Children can visit the Tooth Fairy and Captain Supertooth, and sink their teeth into kid-friendly booths, games and prizes. A table of healthy snacks will also be available.

The health fair is part of the college's "Week of the Young Child," an annual event that raises awareness of the needs of children in the community, including topics like immunizations, fire safety and art. The health fair targets children up to age 8, but all ages are welcome to attend Saturday's health fair, Townsend said.

The free, come-and-go event is open from 9 a.m. to noon in rooms CU2 and CU3 of Oklahoma City Community College's College Union, 7777 S. May. For more information, call 682-7561.
