Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park makes splash at new home with 'Dream'

The outdoor setting is breathtakingly beautiful. As though dropped into the middle of the downtown skyline, lush trees and water plants surround the newly furbished stage.

Kathryn McGill, co-founder and artistic director of OSP, directs a charming cast with a sure hand and a light touch. Thanks to knockout costumes by Dottie DeLeon and the spirited work of the dancers, the fairy world takes on a vibrant, East Indian flair.

Joe Daleo offers a contemporary sound track that works alongside the exotic fairy music surprisingly well. And C.M. Domanski has designed a lovely, multilevel stage with intricate columns that move and tilt to become the magical forest trees.

CAST MEMBERS
Hal Kohlman and Ariel Allison lead the cast with strong presence and charm. Brian Scott Carey, Susan Riley, Wil Rogers and Marlowe Holden all find humorous physicality in playing the sparring lovers, as well as lusty passion.

But it's always been Bottom's show, and Doug Brown "? now in his third outing with the part "? finds, incredibly, even more new ways to prolong the hammy actor's death scene.

This early, lyrical Shakespearean comedy is a wonderful production to launch OSP's inaugural season in downtown OKC. It feels like one is watching this theater company's own dream come true. "?Linda McDonald
