Before the Internet was a twinkle in Al Gore's eye, AT&T suggested that customers "reach out and touch someone" in the early 1980s.

Since then, e-mail in-boxes are now inundated with important messages about giant Texas rattlesnakes, "free laptop" promotions and the hoax that TV's Mister Rogers had a former life as a trained assassin. (Video evidence of this should be e-mailed to Chicken-Fried News intern Bucky with the subject line: "ARCHIVAL GRUNT WORK.")

Speaking of e-mail, the Oklahoma Conservative Political Action Committee (OCPAC) reached out electronically to red-state voters in House District 84. The subject matter involved a transgender candidate running against state Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City.

You might remember Kern for recent comments that "homosexual millionaires" are "working secretly to change the society of America." Or that gay people are more dangerous than terrorism.

On a campaign website, Kern's opponent, Brittany Novotny, published contents of a Sept. 7 e-mail sent by OCPAC founder Charlie Meadows.

"Brittany used to be a 'he,' had a sex change operation to make him into a 'her' but turned out to become a confused 'it.' Some have suggested that having a sex change operation is a person's greatest act of rebellion and hatred toward God for His making them what they were," Meadows wrote. "It is truly sad to see people reject God's love for them by being willing to mutilate themselves. If they would submit their life to God, they could find the true the joy in life that will forever elude them while on their path of rebellion. The hatred and rage toward Sally continues unabated in the homosexual community because Sally dared to declare their political agenda for what it truly is, more dangerous to the future of America than the threat of terrorism."

After Meadows reached out and touched some OCPAC members via e-mail, Novotny issued
the following response:

"If Rep. Kern and her allies spent as much time focusing on Oklahoma's future as they seem to spend worrying about my past, maybe we could keep teachers in the classroom and rebuild our crumbling infrastructure," she said. "This type of personal attack is what Oklahomans are tired of, and it shows why Kern and her political
allies continue to be out of touch with mainstream Oklahoma values."
