Paseo gallery exhibits pottery presentation

Even at a mere 20 years of age, artist Dakota Wolf is becoming quite the staple of the Paseo Arts District. His most recent exhibit, "Carved in Clay," opened Aug. 1 and will run through Aug. 30 at Adelante! Gallery, 3003 Paseo.

The exhibit celebrates Wolf's recent move to the West with experimental carvings, glazes and forms that he has shaped into pottery both decorative and functional. According to Adelante!'s Web site, he "takes liberties with clay, carving landscapes and geometric designs."

Despite his youth, Wolf boasts a nearly lifelong relationship with clay, having worked with the hands-on medium from the time he was 2 years old. He has been a potter for four years now, and likes to blend and layer glazes to achieve unique effects in color.

"I'm experimenting with different forms," he told Oklahoma Gazette last year. "I do a lot of functional pieces, and I'm trying more to branch out into more aesthetic pieces."

In addition to his ceramics work, Wolf also applies his talents to acrylic paintings and pastel landscapes.

Adelante! may be owned by his mother, Cynthia Daniel Wolf, an artist in her own right, but she wouldn't host an exhibit she didn't think was good.

"He has a wide variety of shapes and colors," she said.

Specializing in Southwestern, Western and contemporary fine artists, Adelante! is open from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. For more information, call 525-4039.
