Potable patios 

The metro has many great patios, but a few have distinctive views, features or drinks worth mentioning.

One of the best views of the city’s newly enlarged skyline can be had from Bossa Nova, the Midtown rooftop patio of Cafe do Brasil, 440 N.W. 11th.

Relax and enjoy the signature drink of Brazil, the caipirinha ($6-$8). Traditionally made with lime, sugar and cachaça (a Brazilian brandy made from sugar cane), the refreshing cocktail also can be made with white rum or vodka, your preference.

At Ludivine, 805 N. Hudson, certified sommelier Ian Bennett presides over the remarkable wine list. He recently added some rosés, including Domaine du Salvard Cheverny, a blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay (the grape used for Beaujolais).

Having Cheverny by the glass lets customers try one of the best rosés in the world while relaxing outside.

“Drink Cheverny on the patio if you like puppies, rainbows and things that taste good,” Bennett said. “If not, drink white zin in a basement somewhere.”

If you prefer more of a backyard feel to your patio, try The Wedge, 4709 N. Western. The patio really is a backyard of sorts, and the only place in town to find Grangia by the glass.

The new sparkling wine from Italy is a dry, crisp white with slight effervescence. The predominant grape is Favorita, which seems appropriate, since this might be my favorite patio bubbles of the summer.

It’s also available at Broadway Wine Merchants, 824 N. Broadway, and the price is under $15 a bottle.

For the artsy, Paseo Grill, 2909 Paseo, provides a a particularly excellent view of Oklahoma City’s arts district.

If you beat the hipsters and bohemians to the best seats, try the Gruet Brut or the Zardetto Prosecco. Both are light and crisp with solid fruit flavors and a great price.

West, 6714 N. Western, has dual patios: the north side is non-smoking; the west side, smoker-friendly. Try the Saturday brunch on the patio with a glass of the brand-new Domaine St. Vincent Brut Rosé, a light, fruity, affordable sparkler from the Gruet winery.
