Poteet Theatre hosts Dr. Suess musical

Hop into the magical world of Dr. Seuss this summer by experiencing "Seussical: The Musical," the stage adaptation of books by the beloved children's author, at the Poteet Theatre, 222 N.W. 15th, starting Friday.

Bringing the stories of Seuss favorites like Horton the Elephant, Layzie Mayzie and Thing One and Thing Two to life, "Seussical" entertains children and parents alike through its fantastical recreation of the books. With different musical styles ranging from Latin and pop to swing and gospel, the show creates an engaging world where Seuss-isms reign and fun abounds.

Jay Prock, director of the show and executive director of Poteet Theatre, said this show will delight Dr. Seuss readers of all ages.

"Because it's not realism, there's been a lot of room for interpretation and there's been a lot of room for creative staging and creative color with the costumes and the sets," Prock said. "We've been able to create a fantasy world where even though the message applies to life today, the actual story takes you out of your own world and into something different."

In the intimate setting provided by the Poteet Theatre, audience members will have the magic of the Seuss world brought right to their seats. Front-row theatergoers also will experience some interactive scenes with the cast.

Running through Aug. 3, "Seussical: The Musical" debuts 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a matinee performance at 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15. For more information, call 609-1023.
