The trio has gone from emo poppers with New Wave underpinnings to the inverse, and it suits the band well, as evidenced by the slick Get Well EP.
The cover of Joy Divisions Love Will Tear Us Apart, the quintessential post-punk ballad, is a good clue as to the direction in which Progress in Color has set its sights, but whats really exciting is Now or Never, the sort of brilliantly infectious, polished alt-radio single that helped Young The Giant, Neon Trees and Walk The Moon emerge in the past few years.
The wintry opener Fool For You is just as impressive in moving from sparse synth squiggles to full-blown and fully realized rock anthem à la Keane and the like.
Maybe this isnt where Progress in Color thought it would be at this point in time, but finding itself as it has in Get Well should make for an easier trip onward. Joshua Boydston
