Putin power

As the top-ranking Republican member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Inhofe blamed the president for cutting the military and, as a result, empowering Russian President Vladimir Putin to have carte blanche in hassling and invading its neighbors, according to a report in the Kansas City Star.

The
distinguished gentleman from Oklahoma seems to have no memory of
sequestration, which cut many areas of the federal budget, including the
military, and was the work of both Republicans and Democrats. (And
aren’t Republicans the ones always wanting to make cuts to the federal
budget? Just checking.)

But
by his account, Inhofe said the president has been practicing
“apologetic diplomacy” rather than funding the military, and that has
left room for rulers like Putin to step in and flex their military
might.

While the Department of Defense has had to tighten its belt, it seems unlikely that anything this, or any other U.S. president, does is going to have any influence over Putin.
