ans on the college's campus "? one that went largely untold for many years.

Henderson found that this annual tradition marked the beginning of his new memoir, "Race and the University." The manuscript was an opportunity to reintroduce himself on the pages to old friends, such as Oklahoma football legend Bud Wilkinson and civil rights activist Clara Luper.

Today, Henderson credits the sacrifices of his family, the continued support of his colleagues and his biggest supporters at OU, the students.

"I like that song, 'Maybe I never told you all those lonely times you are always on my mind.' Well, students are my song," he said. "They are always on my mind."

Henderson will discuss and sign "Race and the University" at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Full Circle Bookstore, 1900 Northwest Expressway.
