These two groups want to remind the public and legislators about the constant death in Afghanistan, and that this is the longest war in American history.
The rally will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Friday at 100 N. Broadway Ave. on the plaza adjacent to the Chase Tower.
Ret. Air Force Col. Katherine Scheirman, a physician who worked as the chief of medical operations at a hospital in Germany until 2006, will speak about the impact wars can have on soldiers. Statements from individuals who support the rally but could not be present also will be read.
This is the longest war the U.S. has ever had, and 10 years is a significant marker, so we thought it was appropriate time to get out there, remind people that weve still got major wars going on in the world, said Rena Guay, executive director, Oklahoma Center for Conscience.
Guay said the group wants to end the war in Afghanistan because it is detrimental to the soldiers, the U.S. economy and Americas foreign policy goals.
The polls show the American people want out, but they arent acting to force their political representatives to act on that, Guay said.
