Reduxion Theatre Company presents Austen adaptation

Catch a stage rendition this weekend of Jane Austen's classic novel of five sisters hunting for husbands in 19th-century England.

Reduxion Theatre Company's production of "Pride and Prejudice" is an entertaining romance that will have audiences laughing, said Erin Woods, managing director.

"It's a high-spirited, very romantic, very comic telling of this story," she said. "It's not a stuffy piece of classical theater. It's really fun."

A tale of love and values, "Pride and Prejudice" centers around Elizabeth Bennett, the witty and outspoken country gentleman's daughter whose parents are searching for her potential husband. In this story of the battle of the sexes, Bennett finally falls in love with one of her suitors in the end.

"We decided to put it in our inaugural season here in Oklahoma City, because our focus is on classical theater," Woods said. "It's an adaptation that's never been performed in Oklahoma City."

NONPROFIT THEATER COMPANY
This is the second production this season for the nonprofit theater company, which was founded in Oklahoma City in 2000 before relocating to New York City. After several years, the company returned to the Sooner State in 2007.

"There's so much talent right now and so many universities procuring talent and actors, we wanted to come back to Oklahoma with the goal of eventually having a professional theater company," Woods said.

Performances are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, through March 28 at City Arts Center, 3000 General Pershing. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. For more information, visit or call 651-3191.
