Reservoir Dogs: 15th Anniversary Edition

1992/2006

Holding the latest incarnation of "Reservoir Dogs" in one's hands, two questions arise: 1) How many DVD releases does this movie need? and 2) Can DVD packaging get any cooler?

Both merit asking, since this release is one year premature for the post-heist film's 15th anniversary, and its two discs come packaged like an oversized matchbook tucked inside a tin replica of a gasoline can "? a dark joke stemming from one of the film's more memorable scenes.

Quentin Tarantino's much-ballyhooed debut remains his least satisfying film, but still such a stylistic, freeform fireball that I'm still unsure how it ever found funding. Though wholly unrealistic, his patented dialogue still crackles; not yet confident with the camera, the action is fairly inert, wisely allowing the ace cast "? Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth and Steve Buscemi among it "? to act the crap out of it.

Extras-wise, there's nothing meaty enough to merit an upgrade from the 10th anniversary edition, but if you've yet to add "Dogs" to your collection, bite.
