The "Rockabilly Queen" will hold court with fans, politicians and community leaders, and perform a free concert on Sept. 30 to celebrate the official dedication of city alley renamed in her honor.
Wanda Jackson Way will be officially unveiled at a 1:30 p.m. ceremony held at the alley, which runs parallel to East Reno Avenue and extends from South Oklahoma Avenue to South Mickey Mantle Drive. The Oklahoma City Council in July voted unanimously to rename the Bricktown alley after the singer.
Jackson, a Maud native and '50s rock pioneer known for hits like "Let's Have a Party," is credited with being the first female rockabilly singer. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April, she will perform at next week's unveiling. "Joe Wertz
