Salyer seeking full-term seat on Oklahoma City Council

Salyer, who also serves as president of Accel Financial Staffing, was elected to the post in 2008 to finish the term of Councilwoman Anne Simank, who vacated the office when her son became a firefighter.

Salyer has held leadership roles for several nonprofit boards and foundations such as the Citizens Community for Community Development, Downtown Oklahoma City and the Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools, as well as serving as vice president of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce’s education and workforce development committee.

She said her part in the council’s work with the county government to alleviate gang and graffiti concerns in south Oklahoma City is one of her most rewarding efforts.

“Being even a small part of the effort to curb gang violence, make our city more beautiful and help us take advantage of our tremendous potential has been very rewarding,” she said, in a press release. “However, we are just scratching the surface, and I know I have much more to offer the city. That is why I have decided to seek election to a full term.”

Half of the city council seats — wards 2, 5, 6 and 8 — will be up for election in the next few months. Filing for the races runs from Jan. 27-31. The primary election is set for March 1; if needed, the general election will be held April 5.
