Back for its second year, Oklahoma Senior Follies takes its inspiration from the Ziegfeld Follies for a show packed with music, dance and comedy.
Former
Miss America Jane Jayroe and Oklahoma City University President Robert
Henry are emcees for the show, which features performers 55 years and
older.
During the
week we have special coaching sessions and this and that, said Bobbie
Burbridge Lane, founder and producer. These people have been stars in
the movies and television and radio you name it.
The
cast includes Grammywinning artist Jody Miller, American Spirit Dance
Company founder Jo Rowan and choreographer Bob Windsor, to name a few.
Running
Friday through Sunday, the show benefits Mobile Meals of Oklahoma
County, a service that provides food to the homebound elderly.
We
are really steamed up to help Mobile Meals again and to continue to
re-energize our senior community, Lane said. They certainly dont have
to be a performer to dust off their talents and use them.
Audiences can expect to see Jane Hall, actress and singer, perform again at this weekends Follies.
The
best benefit personally is that you make people happy, Hall said. You
make them smile and laugh, and just for a little bit, you can make
people happy.
She will duet with Windsor, as well as reprise Tea for Two Cha Cha with Charlotte Franklin.
[Its]
a very funny little bit weve been doing for years, Hall said. Were
fully clothed, but were strippers. It brought down the house last year,
so they asked us to do it again.
Franklin coins herself as an actress who sings and dances.
Its very gratifying knowing that all these wonderful people give up there time and energy, Franklin said.
She said she knows this cast of seniors to be great performers.
Dont stop playing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop playing, she said.
But organizers stress that Senior Follies isnt only for seniors.
I dont care what age you are:
Weve got such terrific comedy, music and dancing, you would not believe, Lane said.
