With a foreword by actor James Garner, fellow Oklahoman, the hardcover features photographs and essays, all highlighting specific features of the state that Cook finds to be particularly unique. His subjects include everything from landscapes to the different lifestyles residents lead.

“Oklahoma is my birth state, and I feel a strong connection to the land and the people — somewhat visceral, if you will,” said Cook, a 23-year photojournalist. “I agonized for months over the picture selection, hoping to display an honest cross section of life in Oklahoma.”

Sharing some of his own life experiences in the book, he said his rough childhood has made him the kind of artist that he is today. His work has appeared in such publications as Life, Time and National Geographic.
