If you have a hankering for Italian while in the Norman area, do try Othello’s. The owners of the Edmond Othello’s now own this one, too. There are lots of customercreated dishes on its menu, and its original decor has not changed one bit. One word that sums it all up is: energy. Be advised: Othello’s is open Sunday with half-price pizza.

There are scores of Asian restaurants in Oklahoma where the decor is simple and the dishes budget-priced. One such is Asian Eternity, and when you eat there you never have to cook — or do the dishes. There is an Asian buffet with traditional Chinese fare, including seafood, chicken, beef and barbecue, plus a nice selection of sushi. The establishment opens daily at 11 a.m.

Brandon’s Gyro Cafe

The gyro, a most popular Greek specialty item, is made of minced lamb that is molded around a spit and roasted vertically. Brandon’s opened eight months ago and is offering ham and turkey sandwiches, wings, chicken strips and carryout, too. Chancing upon a place like Brandon’s Gyro Cafe is certainly one of the delights of urban exploration.

since late May, this chic restaurant with a split personality not only
features the creative food of Vietnam, but American specialties, as
well. It has beef noodle soup and rice dishes, along with grilled
salmon, oriental chicken salad and shish kebab. Finish with a dish of
its fried bananas and ice cream.

Tucker’s Onion Burgers

Aiming
for an opening in mid-September (or perhaps sooner), chef Robert Black
keeps on rollin’ with classic, juicy onion burgers plus something for
vegetarians. Black has added a nice vegetarian salad and also (here’s a
scoop) a turkey-onion burger for those who shy away from red meat. It is
the latest addition for A Good Egg Dining Group, and all their efforts
produce wonderful results.

Jemz Cupcakes

Jemz
(get it?) has been creating cupcakes since February and in the fall
will perhaps offer pies and fudge. Owner Kim Adams bakes an inviting red
velvet cupcake, or try another named the Strawberry Patch. However, the
best among the delicate confections is named the Smooth Criminal with
chocolate, peanut butter and chocolate ganache. All are made from prize
recipes.

Hideaway Pizza

In
the middle of Automobile Alley, the newest Hideaway swung open its doors
in early August in what was formerly CD Warehouse. “We have (a) bunch
of new pizzas, such as the Big Jim Sicilian with red sauce on top or the
Totally Truffle done with a garlic glaze and truffle oil. We are
selling an enormous amount of pasta dishes, too.” Those are words from
its enthusiastic manager Randy Carlson.
