Smoked out

The e-cig can be charged by USB.

That’s right; it can be charged.

I know this because I got extremely curious after several friends touted the product and I noticed a growing number of e-cig shops popping up across the metro.

So one day I stopped into Vapor King (3506 N. Classen Blvd.; 528- 2808) to learn a bit about e-cig culture.

While the items do contain a barrel for tobacco, which comes in a range of flavors, the amount of nicotine varies. There is absolutely no black tar, however, which is among the most dangerous ingredients in cigarettes.

Another selling point for e-cigs, especially for those using it as a stepping stone to quitting: They can be smoked indoors because they’re vaporized. Sorry, Joe Camel; ashes and tar are old hat.

Some e-cig barrels are simple and small, but Vapor King also carries the Cadillac of electronic smoking with gizmos that include clocks and weather alerts.

If you’re looking for an assortment of flavors, check out CJ’s E-Cig (2220 S.W. 74th; 680-7595). There’s even a vape happy hour; if you purchase one flavor at full price, the second is discounted 50 percent.

OKC Vapes (3701 N.W. 50th; 605-1990) is serious about its gear. Pick up the MCV Atomic or MCV Scud Mod, both stainless-steel pieces and top-of-the-line when it comes to electronic smoking culture.

If you’re not quite ready for the big leagues, OKC Vapes has a few starter kits to fit the bill.

Vapes also features a range of e-liquids in flavors such as tobacco, fruit, menthol, sweet and sour, coffee and flowery. Can’t decide? Opt for a mixed variety or start with a sampler pack.

If you’ve got questions, ask the staff. The stores are full of knowledgeable vape users who will gladly get you fixed up with what you need. Let’s shop, OKC!
