Preservation and rejuvenation are the themes of Oklahoma's 22nd Annual Statewide Preservation Conference, scheduled for June 9-11 in historic downtown Okmulgee. The Oklahoma Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office is presenting the event, titled "Out Front in Preservation."
The program includes three concurrent tracks of sessions:
" "Leading the Way" has a focus on local and tribal heritage preservation;
" Design and architectural concerns are the main theme of "Fundamentals for the Frontlines"; and
" "First Things First" is concerned with the identification and research of potential historic properties.
On June 10, author and chef Robert St. John will speak on "My South: The History, Traditions, Eccentricities, and Absurdities of Food and Life in the South." The second session features Thomas D. Guzman, director of the Iowa Downtown Resource Center in Des Moines, Iowa, speaking on "Out of the Box Thinking " Using CDBG for Rehabilitation, Downtown Revitalization and Community Sustainability."
