Steve Hill named new chief of staff for mayor

The City of Oklahoma City has hired Steve Hill as new chief of staff to Mayor Mick Cornett.

Hill, who has more than 20 years' experience in media relations in political, corporate and agency settings, starts Nov. 4. David Holt, who served as Cornett's chief of staff since 2006, leaves the position after winning the race for Senate District 30 during the July 27 primary.

For the past two years, Hill worked as a public relations consultant with clients in the energy, legal, health care, sports and arts fields. He previously served as spokesperson for the City of McKinney, Texas, then the fastest-growing city in the country, where he worked closely with Mayors Bill Whitfield and Brian Loughmiller.

Hill led PR teams at two Dallas-based public relations firms and was responsible for internal communications for 200,000 employees of Plano, Texas-based J.C. Penney Company Inc.

In Oklahoma City, he served as press secretary to former Democratic Gov. David Walters and held public relations positions at the Oklahoma Blood Institute and Metro Tech. He has also worked as an air personality on KATT-FM, KYIS-FM and WWLS-AM. He was a freelance writer for the Oklahoma Gazette, where he won Society of Professional Journalists awards for editorial writing and cartooning.

Hill is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in journalism.
