Tab Benoit-Brother to the Blues

Telarc

How can I not say nice things about a guy who does a fantastic cover of Sam Cooke's "Bring It on Home to Me," without a doubt one of the best songs ever? The answer is, I can't.

"Brother to the Blues," guitarist Tab Benoit's new album, mixes blues, country, rock 'n' roll and Southern charm, and does it pretty well. Benoit's soulful voice sticks with you, and helps keep this set of mostly blues and country covers flowing. For some blues lovers, the country numbers on this album, or as Benoit calls them, "country blues," might be a bit too country.

But most of the blues numbers are strong, and this is an overall enjoyable set. Oh yeah, and there's that Cooke song. Nothing can top the original, but Benoit's attempt is more than respectable' it's dang good in its own right.
