"Last Day of Summer" is like no other movie you'll see all year!

That's not a compliment, because the film is annoying, aggravatingly pointless.

DJ Qualls stars (and that should be the first red flag, as he is only effective in supporting roles) as Joe, a miserable Burger Haven employee made to scrub toilets by his demanding boss (William Sadler). Joe so hates the guy "? and life itself "? that he fantasizes about shooting him, and maybe even himself.

Joe takes the first step in doing so by attempting to acquire a gun. Weapon in hand, however, he chickens out, but ends up kidnapping a comely customer (Nikki Reed) after he wrongly assumes they shared "a moment" and gets upset at her rejection. He takes her to a cheap motel, where they lie around and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk, until he realizes he has something to live for after all. The end.

I'll ape "Summer"'s abruptness by cutting this review short, too: I hated, hated, hated it. "?Rod Lott
