The Uglysuit

Quarterstick/Touch and Go

Soundtracking the grandiose and poignant scenes of life just became easier, now that local boys The Uglysuit have released their debut, self-titled album. The release is filled to the brim with skin-tingling crescendos, warm harmonies and waves of good vibes sparking out of the speakers.

Remember that ex-girlfriend who seemed gone forever, but a moment of clarity brought the courage needed to make things right? Need a song to express the tension just before the bursting release of emotion? Try the wistful "Chicago," a nod to the town where the album was recorded. Slow, dreamy instrumentation and pensive vocals are the stuff that liberated kisses in the rain are made of.

Taking a long, lonely walk through a sleeping cityscape while reassessing your life's direction? Need a song that ambles until that moment when all life comes into illumination? Check out "Brad's House." Plenty of timid melodies set up a power punch of swirling harmonies guaranteed to leave audiences a bit misty-eyed.

Uglysuit guitarist and vocalist Colin Bray said a series of doors swung open for the band after its "Welcome to Smileville" EP released two years ago. That brought the group to a Chicago recording studio built inside a vintage bank vault. After a couple of shows in the Windy City, the Oklahoma City six-piece was snatched up by Quarterstick Records.

Positive press from Paste, Rolling Stone and preceded a summer tour with Iron & Wine, building momentum for a block party with Ratatat and Neko Case in Chicago, and forthcoming tours both home and abroad.

The Uglysuit's next local gig is Oct. 2 at the UCO Jazz Lab in Edmond with Fires of Atlas. Come revel in the emotionally charged tunes before they get appropriated by sappy teen dramas across the television dial.
