Three unique artists welcome a new year of exhibition with an eclectic group show at Istvan Gallery.

Oklahoma City artists Bryan Boone and Scott Henderson are presenting in a show alongside work by Japan native Nanoko Yonemaru. Boone has exhibited at the gallery before, but the others are first-timers.

Boone is a largely self-taught artist who works in acrylic, ink, pencil and charcoal. His work explores architecture, infrastructure and the relationship between people and the urban environment, but his new series features more organic imagery.

Henderson was trained at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Central Oklahoma. His creations are often collages and mixed-media works, like maps layered with paint and photos that play with perception and combine elements of storytelling.

Yonemaru, who recently moved to the United States, is studying art at Seminole State College. She was born in Kagoshima, Japan, where she received acclaim, including an award at the Nikaten Art Show in Tokyo.

Gallery founder and administrator Stephen Kovash said the exhibit gives the three artists a chance to showcase their diverse backgrounds and inspirations while developing their individual styles.

"Brian Boone is very architectural is his work," Kovash said. "He likes straight lines and logical things. Henderson is another very talented local artist. I'd say his work reminds me of Tim Burton's version of 'Alice in Wonderland.' There are multiple colorful pieces collaged on each piece, and you could spend hours trying to find all of the images. (Yonemaru's) work is featured around a lot of feminine things, like body parts and shapes. She is an emerging artist."

The exhibit opened last week and is on display through April 30 at the gallery, 1218 N. Western. For more information, call 831-2874 or visit www.istvangallery.com. "?Luke Atkinson
