Trio of established artists with ties to Oklahoma open a new exhibit examining their works

"Natural Selection" opens New Year's Day at JRB Art at The Elms, 2810
N. Walker, featuring pieces by Shelley Horton-Trippe, Joe Andoe and Marko
Kratohvil.

An Oklahoma City native with a master's in fine arts from the University of
Oklahoma, Horton-Trippe has lived and worked in Santa Fe, N.M. for the last
30 years, said gallery owner Joy Reed Belt. For the exhibit, Horton-Trippe created
abstract paintings and drawings, as well as objects, installations and video
art, Belt said.

Tulsa native Andoe, who also has an MFA from OU, has lived in New York
City since the mid-1980s, Belt said. Several of his video art arrangements depicting
Oklahoma will be shown publicly for the first time at the exhibit.

In 1991, Kratohvil moved to London from Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and joined the Royal Society of British Sculptors. He has taught at prestigious universities overseas and exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Europe, Belt said. Kratohvil recently relocated to Oklahoma City with his wife, Mary Ann Prior, who took over as executive director of the City Arts Center. Belt said Kratohvil's "Natural Selection" work is comprised of new steel sculptures he assembled at a new studio space in Paseo.

All three artists will attend the 1-10 p.m. opening event, which includes black-eyed peas and other New Year's holiday food, and coincides with Paseo's monthly First Friday Gallery Walk. For more information, call 528-6336 or visit www.jrbartgallery.com."?Joe Wertz
