Various artists - 21: Music from the Motion Picture

Columbia

The sound track to gambling flick "21" sounds like what Vegas has become. Any signs of nostalgia are gone and you won't find the Rat Pack or casino classics on this CD, but there is plenty of hip glitz and pretty things to experience.

One of the best songs is from Brooklyn synth-poppers MGMT: the delightfully catchy "Time to Pretend," an easy standout on this disc, with sing-along vocals backed by growling keyboards and overdriven dance drums.

Belgium's electro-dance duo Soulwax actually manages a very likable remix of the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want," a song that, under normal circumstances, would be sacrilege to alter in any way.

Also featured is a clever, almost video-game-sounding instrumental by dance punk purveyors LCD Soundsystem.

No sound track would be complete without at least one total throwaway, so thank Rihanna and her made-for-commericials "Shut Up and Drive," which was awful long before it was included here.

The "21" soundtrack is a fun, safe bet.
