Various artists - Now That's What I Call Classic Rock

music older than last week with "Now That's What I Call Classic Rock" (note the absence of the exclamation point, as if excessive punctuation is not needed to sell the theory).

The disc contains 20 tracks, all of which likely can be heard on KRXO-FM 107.7 on any given day. Twice. This includes songs that will remind you of being at a sporting event (Queen's "We Will Rock You"), of renting John Carpenter's "Christine" on VHS from Sound Warehouse (George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone"), of scalping tickets at the Zoo Amphitheatre (Steve Miller Band's "The Joker"), and of preferring the mid-Eighties Heart when Nancy Wilson was kinda hot to the Seventies Heart (Heart's "Barracuda").

For every good song (The Who, David Bowie), there's dreck like Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama." Sorry, Skynyrd fans, but once your song title becomes a Patrick Dempsey movie, its time has passed.
