Oklahoma City is taking another step toward strengthening its reputation as the Softball Capital of the World.

The Oklahoma City Council approved final plans June 2 for a new indoor softball practice facility at Devon Park, a $25.4 million project funded through the City’s 2025 Bond program. A groundbreaking ceremony is expected in fall 2026.

The 30,000-square-foot facility will be built on the southwest side of Devon Park and feature two fully separated indoor practice infields, team locker rooms, sports medicine and player development areas, administrative offices and a weight room. An enclosed, climate-controlled connection will link the new building directly to the stadium.

City officials say the facility is designed to support elite-level competition while helping secure Oklahoma City’s future as a premier softball destination.

“We want this to be a premier softball performance training facility that continues to grow the softball community nationally,” Public Works Director Debbie Miller said in a statement. “Our goal is for this to be designated as a United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee training site and to help secure Oklahoma City as the home of the NCAA Women’s College World Series beyond 2035.”

The project also includes improvements to the stadium entrance, including new brick columns and shaded gathering areas.

Designed by Oklahoma City-based STUDIO Architecture, the split-level building will allow competing teams to practice simultaneously without seeing or interacting with one another before games. Construction is expected to take approximately 18 months once work begins.

USA Softball CEO Craig Cress said the project reinforces the city’s long-term commitment to the sport.

“As the city prepares to welcome the world to Oklahoma City for the Olympic Games and continue its storied tradition of hosting the Women’s College World Series, this facility will provide elite training opportunities for athletes while creating a lasting impact for our sport long after 2028,” Cress said.

Devon Park hosts some of softball’s biggest events, including the NCAA Women’s College World Series, the Big 12 Softball Championship and USA Softball national team activities. The new facility is one of 547 projects included in Oklahoma City’s $2.7 billion 2025 Bond program, which is expected to fund infrastructure and community improvements through 2036.
