The OKC Tap Dance Festival returns Sept. 18-20, bringing more than 150 dancers and nationally recognized tap artists to Oklahoma City for three days of classes, performances and events.
Hosted by the Metropolitan School of Dance, the festival includes 42 classes for beginning through advanced dancers at The Douglass at Page Woodson. Featured artists include Chicago-based Reggio McLaughlin and Bril Barrett, along with other local and national instructors.
New this year is the Masters and Friends Showcase, set for 6:30 pm Saturday, Sept. 19, at Civic Center Music Hall. The public performance will feature festival artists and dancers from throughout the weekend.
Other events include a Friday Tap Jam, a tap history luncheon and Tap Into Feedback, a Sunday session where competitive dancers perform choreography and receive feedback from master artists.
“Tap is an art form that is passed from one dancer to another,” said Cheryl Homen, an instructor at Metropolitan School of Dance. “You’re not only learning steps. You’re listening, exchanging ideas and gaining something unique from each artist you learn from.”
