Uh-huh, uh-huh, yeah, we really showed the Oklahoma Standard by waving the flag of the Confederacy. Remember? Those are the guys who left the United States and then fought against them? And there was slavery involved? Anyway, yeah, let’s show that to the nation’s first black president. Smart.
And the “Southern heritage rally” didn’t just show up in Durant, which, let’s be honest, isn’t exactly our best foot forward. No, there were flags waiting for Obama when he returned to Oklahoma City that night.
Fun fact: The Civil War ended in 1865. Oklahoma didn’t become a state until 1907. As Twitter user Chris Johnson (@okcjohnson) said, “It would make just as much sense for you guys to be waving the Texas state flag.”
